Na Tree
- Scientific Name : Mesua ferrea
- English Name : Ceylon Ironwood
- Family : Calophyllaceae
Special Features:
- The Na tree is endemic to Sri Lanka.
- This is the national tree of Sri Lanka.
- It is found in many forest types but is most common in wet evergreen forests.
- It has very hard wood , hence the name "Ironwood".
- The flower are fragrant and white with multiple petals.
Uses:
- Wood: Extremely strong, used in construction, tools, and musical instruments.
- Flowers and leaves: Used in Ayurveda for medicinal purposes.
- Ornamental value: Often planted for landscaping and beautification.
Conservation:
- The Na tree is now threatened due to deforestation and illegal logging.
The Na Tree is a part of our natural heritage. Preserving and replanting it is our responsibility
